PRESCRIPTION DRUG TAKE-BACK DAY: APRIL 28

The Kirkwood Police Department will sponsor another Drug Take-Back Day / collection event on April 28, 2012. Turn in your unused or expired medication for safe disposal:  10am to 2pm.  All medications can be turned in at the Police Deparment, 131 West Madison.  Here is a poster you can download and print.

If you cannot make that day or time, don't forget that the Kirkwood Police accept medications 24 hours a day at the police department building.  You can drop off your medications in the drop box pictured above, which is located in the PD lobby.  The box was designed and built by a local scout.

Bureau of Field Operations

The Bureau of Field Operations, led by Captain Brian Murphy, is the largest bureau within the Department. The Patrol Division is the primary focus of this bureau.

The Patrol Division

Three lieutenants, six sergeants, and 24 patrol officers staff the Patrol Division. Patrol officers provide the greatest amount of service to the Kirkwood and Oakland communities. They work to prevent criminal activity, protect life and property, preserve the peace, check suspicious persons and vehicles, investigate crimes and offenses, and make arrests. The patrol officer has many roles – protector, law enforcer, investigator, counselor, problem solver, peacekeepers, and interpreter of the law. Our two Canine Officers are under the Patrol Division.

Preventative patrol is an important function of the Patrol Division. Officers make their visible presence serve as a deterrent to crime. Analysis of crime and other calls determines assignment of officers to areas. These patrol areas are periodically reevaluated. Special patrols are tailored for community events and other special details within the City.

The City is separated into four districts. A patrol officer is responsible for any calls for police service in his/her area. At times when there are more demands for police service, additional officers are scheduled to work. They can handle assignments, serve as backup, and assist on calls of a serious nature. All patrol officers are under the supervision of a sergeant and lieutenant.
